ULI Toronto Mentorship Program – Mentor

ULI Toronto Mentorship Program – Mentor

What

The ULI Mentorship Program uses a hybrid model of in-person and virtual participation so we can engage and support the greatest number of participants. In addition to the traditional one-on-one format, this year we are introducing group mentoring where mentees will have an option to be with five (5) to seven (7) of their peers and one mentor.

The Mentorship Program expects mentors and mentees to meet either one-on-one or in their small groups once per month. In addition to these mentorship sessions, the program includes a series of 1-2 hour social events.

How

Applications for new mentors and mentees will be open from mid-April to June 30th and the program runs from September 2023 to July 2024 and requires a monthly meeting between mentees and mentors.

As part of the application, you will be asked to note your preference for type of mentorship which is either one-on-one or group mentoring. The group mentoring is a new format that we are piloting where, as a mentor you can meet with 5 – 7 mentees together to extend and expand the engagement and learning experience.

Selected mentees will be informed on or before Friday, August 4, 2023.  Mentors who apply are accepted to the program as long as they meet the criteria and based on number of mentees in any given year’s intake.  Pairing with your mentee(s) occurs in the fall.

Selection Criteria:

Please submit your application by Friday, June 30th, 2023.

  • Mentors must have 10+ years of experience in the Real Estate and Development Industry.
  • Mentors with ULI Memberships are preferred, though not mandatory.
  • No prior mentorship experience is required.
  • Mentees will have at least 2 years experience in an industry related field

Commitment

The Mentorship Program creates a valuable opportunity for building relationships between young and veteran leaders that provides a unique growth experience that enhances both their professional careers and personal developments. To achieve this, it is critical that all participants adhere to our core commitments:

  • The 2023 Mentorship Program will run from September 2023 – July 2024 (11 Months).
  • Mentors and mentees are expected to meet on a monthly basis outside of the mandatory program sessions.
  • Mentors and mentees will attend 100% of the program’s events to support meaningful connection and engagement.
  • Mentors and Mentees will foster trusting relationships and keep all conversations confidential. Violations of confidentiality are a serious breach and, at the discretion of ULI, may lead to immediate suspension from the Program.
  • Mentees understand that the mentorship program is first and foremost an opportunity for professionals to share valuable insights and network within the sector. The Mentorship program is not designed to provide job opportunities; mentees are not to ask mentors for introductions.
  • Mentees understand that the Mentorship Program is first and foremost an opportunity for professionals to share valuable insights and network within the sector.
  • The Program is not designed to solicit or provide job opportunities.

Mentor Responsibilities

Mentors volunteer their time for the duration of the program and based on participant feedback, are rewarded with some incredible “reverse mentoring” learning as well as new, meaningful relationships where they can share their knowledge, wisdom and career experiences.

We are always looking for new Mentors for the program and welcome professionals from across the industry to join either as a one-on-one or group Mentor.

Why

Participants gain lifelong connections with young professionals in the industry and give back to inspire the next generation of city builders.

The mission of the program is to:

  • Build Intentional Relationships: By providing a unique opportunity for current and future leaders to build rewarding, life-long relationships while collectively exploring the past, present and future of their careers.
  • Reflect the Diversity of our Membership and the City: By providing personalized mentorship experiences from a wide range of senior real estate professionals, reflecting strong, confident identities with deep levels of expertise, experience and thought.
  • Assist with Career Development: By empowering participants to be more proactive in identifying, planning and achieving their career goals while providing learning opportunities and resources to help participants build their professional networks within our industry.
  • Strengthen the Industry: By supporting the inclusion, retention, development and advancement of future leaders in city building, while infusing the industry with new ideas and perspectives.
  • Impact the Discourse: By facilitating trusted relationships that encourage Mentor-and-Mentee interactions as well as ‘reverse’ mentoring; we support mutually beneficial opportunities to learn and ideate.
  • Become a ULI Gateway Experience: By serving as a bridge for program participants to engage with ULI more broadly, by encouraging involvement across the organization and promoting attendance at ULI events.
