What

The built environment is responsible for ~40% of total global greenhouse gas emissions and will be among the most impacted by its consequences. As such, sustainability and resiliency have become essential considerations for all new and existing projects in our land use industry. Government agencies and the private sector are working to align policy and action to ensure that the industry meets its goals for a healthier and more sustainable future. While policy and technological solutions already exist to solve many of the largest contributors to climate change and pollution, many questions remain about how to enact, fund, and implement many of them to meet Net Zero targets.

This council will share knowledge on general climate and sustainability best practices and innovations – including New York’s sustainability and climate goals and policies – and will work to understand the range of solutions to support advocacy and action for policymakers, public agencies, and private sector leaders in real estate and land use.
Topics will range from New York City’s Local Law 97 implementation, to embodied carbon reduction, to major urban infrastructure projects, to resiliency planning and sustainable design.

Local Product Councils meet on a quarterly basis and members are expected to attend at least 3 out of the 4 meetings during the ULI fiscal year. Membership is open only to ULI Members.

Cost: The Local Product Council fee is $100/year for private members and $50/year for public, non-profit, or retired members.

Expectations of Committee Members:
  • Attend at least 3 out of the 4 meetings per year.
  • Actively participate in council meetings and the Council’s information exchange.
  • Attend any program and/or event that you are involved in planning.
  • Actively participate in District Council activities.
  • Must maintain an active ULI membership (Full or Associate).

How

Please complete the below form to apply for a position on the Climate and Sustainability Council for a one-year term concurrent with ULI’s 2025 fiscal year (July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025). ULI NY’s Council leadership will review your application, determine your eligibility, and confirm your seat on a council.

You may only serve on one Local Product Council per Fiscal Year. Given the competitive nature of the application process, if you are not selected to be on your top choice Council, you will be considered for your second choice Council.

NOTE: Due to the limited number of seats available, applying does not guarantee a spot on a council.
