*Please note: ULI Forums during the 2021 ULI Spring Meeting will take place virtually. Please visit americas.uli.org/councils/forums/ for the schedule.

What

ULI Forums are a unique opportunity for ULI Full Members and invited non-member guests to convene during our Spring and Fall conferences, on the day prior to Product Council Day, to dive deeper into specific issues across the real estate spectrum. Forums are typically half-day formats comprised of round table sessions, panels and/or tours in host cities. In addition to these two meetings, Forums may choose to meet virtually between the Spring and Fall conferences and these meetings will be supported by ULI Staff. Forums may be comprised of a core membership plus invited guests or open to a limited number of attendees, dependent on the desire of each group and their leadership team.

The Equitable Development Forum convenes members to discuss opportunities and challenges related to gentrification, equitable development, and real estate development.

As one of the buzzwords in today’s real estate and land use conversations, gentrification can often be a contested or triggering term.

  • Is it detrimental to a city?
  • Are there elements of the concept of gentrification that can be used for social good?
  • Can there be gentrification without displacement?
  • How can we factor social equity into projects from the very beginning?
  • Is there a role for the real estate community to work with local governments to empower local residents?
  • How are social issues impacting the built environment – what is the direction of causation?
  • Can the built environment be used to mitigate social inequalities?
  • What is causing gentrification and are there ways to avoid it while still pursuing redevelopment/reuse goals?
